Volunteer Opportunities

There are numerous ways each school year to volunteer, and we'd love to see each family volunteer twice throughout the school year as a way to support our students.  Review the details below to see what works best for you. Have questions or need more details? Email BettFineArts@gmail.com.

Football Concession Stand - 2027 Stand Leads

It's our largest fundraiser and volunteer need every year. Concessions provide over two-thirds of our overall funds! Many of our concession stand leads will be leaving BFAB as their final BHS student graduates.  See the list of available positions below.  By signing up, the current lead will reach out to share more details, answer questions to ensure the position is a good fit.  If so, you'll have the rest of this school year to learn from them!

Upcoming Opportunities

  • Theatre Production Poster Distribution (October and March): Distribute posters to local businesses on your own schedule.  Watch social media or the newsletter to sign up.
  • SEISTA Volunteers (January): BHS hosts the Southeast Iowa String Teachers Association regional honor orchestra on a Saturday for middle and high school students.  We need a few volunteers to help manage the event during the day and sell tickets to the performance in the afternoon.
  • Rhythm on the Riverbend Volunteers (February): This is a BHS hosted Show Choir event on a Saturday. We need over 120 volunteers and lots of food donations.  Volunteer shifts will be posted in January, are typically 3-4 hours and include
    • Monitoring and Security - Responsible for monitoring the hallways and common areas of the building and providing directions.
    • Concessions - help with food distribution and collecting payments for food purchases.
    • Stage Crew - Responsible for assisting the crew for each group in getting their needed props, equipment on and off stage. To volunteer for this you must be 21 years of age and be able to lift heavy objects.
    • People’s Choice and Shout Outs - Collect money for People's Choice Award and Shout Outs
  • Parent Awards Coordinator (April): Work with BHS Directors to order and organize annual music awards during school hours for a few days.  Email BettFineArts@gmail.com if interested.
  • IHSMA Large Group Festival Volunteers (May): Each May, Bettendorf hosts the IHSMA Large Group Festival in our school. Orchestras perform on Friday while Choirs and Bands perform on Saturday. BFAB runs a concession stand to ensure students have snacks and drinks.  You can also volunteer to monitor auditorium doors to ensure the performances aren’t interrupted or time groups in the practice rooms to make sure they get to their performance on time.  And for those with a performance bent, you can choose to be a Center Manager - introducing each performance, reading shout outs, and timing the performance. Volunteer Sign Up will be linked here in late April.
  • Uniform Fitting (July - October): Work closely with the band directors and students to fit, alter, and organize marching band uniforms for the football and competition season.  Please consider helping if you know how to sew.
  • Marching Band T-shirts Coordinator (July-September): Work with the T-shirt provider, track orders and payments, and deliver the shirts to students.
  • Marching Band Competition Day Volunteers: The varsity marching band travels to three competitions in 2026. We need volunteers to chaperone, help move equipment and drive the trailers.
